CORROSION
Corrosion is defined as the interaction of a material with its environment. The measurable change of the material can lead to an impairment of the function of a component or system.
Specifically, chemical corrosion occurs on metallic components. The best-known type of corrosion is the rusting, i.e., the oxidation of iron.
PROTECTION
Measures to avoid damage that can be caused by corrosion of metallic components is generally referred to as corrosion protection. Absolute corrosion resistance is not possible; however, a component/system specific corrosion protection is possible. The protective measures adopted aim to reduce the rate of corrosive attack so that damage to the component during its lifetime can be tolerated.
SPRAY METALLIZATION
... is the application of metal coatings through flame spraying (thermal spraying) to protect a surface from corrosion.
The surface is first degreased before applying a layer of zinc, aluminum, Zinacor (a zinc-aluminum alloy), copper, bronze, or brass (decorative metallization) in the required thickness, depending on the corrosion environment.
In this thermal spraying process, also known as thermal zinc spraying, the coating material is provided in the form of a metallic wire. This wire is fully melted using a fuel gas mixture. Compressed air creates a spray jet, which deposits the molten material in layers onto the prepared surface.
FLOORING
Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or for the work of installing such a floor covering.
Floor covering is a term to generically describe any finish material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface. Both terms are used interchangeably, but floor covering refers more to loose-laid materials.
